Her parents Woody and Ethel (Mills) Swallow were ranching whenSandy was born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.Sandy’s artistic passion began in mid life, as she experimentedwith oils and watercolors while living ona ranch near Pine Ridge. Being self-taught, Sandy created art capturing her spiritualconnection to nature, home and family.
